The CPU/Switch Module manages all system resources, such as system modules, and provides a 10/100-Mbps Ethernet network management interface, a console terminal, and a modem connection for craft interface. The Cisco ONS 15530 supports a 32x32 at 2.5-Gbps crossbar switch. This switch provides traffic aggregation for network routing and grooming. The system can be configured with redundant CPU/switch modules. The redundant module operates as a hot standby with a less than 50 ms switchover time in the event of failure of the primary switch.
