IBM Capacity BackUp - License ( upgrade license ) - CUoD

Capacity BackUp (CBU) is available on p670 and p690 servers as a standby resource for disaster recovery data centers. Capacity BackUp offers a minimum set of startup processors that can be used for any workload and a larger number of standby processors that can be activated in the event of a disaster. Standby processors cannot be permanently activated, but can be used on a chargeable basis for production swapping during an unscheduled outage, tape backup, failover testing, or upgrade installations. Capacity BackUp is not intended to replace a day-to-day backup server. In fact, high utilization of the CBU standby processors will add significant cost to system operation. Capacity BackUp is available only on p670 and p690 CUoD configurations that have four active and four inactive processors (4/8-way) plus one (for p670) or three (for p690) of the 0/8-way CUoD for processors features. These configurations allow the following CBU server configurations: 16-way with four active and 12 inactive 1.5 GHz POWER4+ processors (p670); 32-way with four active and 28 inactive 1.3 GHz POWER4, 1.5 GHz POWER4+ or 1.7 GHz POWER4+ processors (p690). Each 0/8-way CUoD for processors feature includes 240 processor days of On/Off temporary activation. So a p670 CBU server includes 240 processor days of On/Off activation, while a p690 CBU system includes 720 processor days of On/Off activation. Processors are activated in pairs. Management and measurement of processor days is the same as that used for On/Off CoD.
